Fishing Reports

We strive to at least once per week from March 15-November 15 to provide various stream fishing reports to you. We obtain these reports from our guides, bait shops, resorts, local publications, and individuals. Please keep in mind they are a report from a past event and you may or may not have the same experience from a similar situation. Generally, however, they are a good indicator as to when, how, what, and where will work best in fishing the streams and Rivers of the UP. Included are Pictures of Trout and Salmon caught in Michigan's Beautiful Upper Peninsula.

The weather has been beautiful in Upper Michigan, warming some of our local waters causing some major hatches as of late.

With all of these bugs coming off the water, the brown trout have been more selective with their diet. It's like a bug buffet for our trout and they seem to be keying in on only their craving for the day.

Today, a Hare's Ear Nymph was one of the consistant flies of choice.

Stopped by the river last night to check out the brown drake hatch and just couldn't help but cast a few times. We were rewarded with some eager little browns that took our drake pattern without hesitation.

Unfortunately, as it got darker the lightening started on this already rainy day and put an end to our fly fishing trip. Our last fish of the night was a double, a 15 inch brown and a 19 inch rainbow (which of course eluded a photo by writhing like a slimy Houdini).

Plenty of hatches to fish this week! Take your pick between almost any dry fly in your box and the fish will strike. Recent warm weather has really pushed a lot of hatches in our local rivers. The Escanaba River has been producing consistantly big fish for our clients!

Mornings we have been picking up fish on dry flies such as BWO's, Sulfurs, and Stimulators. In the mid-afternoon we have been forced to go sub-surface with streamers such as Mickey Finn, small Sculpins, and even a few on Zonkers. Nymph fishing in the afternoon is also still producing fish on a Prince, Stonefly, and all other old stand by's like a Pheasant Tail.

Our trout are going crazy in the evening and can be caught on just about everything under the sun. I'm tempted to tie on my car keys just to test my theory...
