He was master fly fisherman and is a missed friend. We now offer this trip in his honor.Relive the old days and experiences of this world renowned trout fisherman as he spent days fishing, relaxing and celebrating the important things in life on these same rivers and streams.
Fishing for Brook Trout, Browns, and Rainbows, on the Yellow Dog, Carp, Little Garlic, and Escanaba Rivers, and maybe one so secret we might even have to blind fold you on the way in. We will have some bourbon from and old tin cup if you choose because it always tastes better out here. We don’t have any bamboo rods to use but our Temple Forks Signature Series rods will do the job nicely. Or you can bring you own.

Northern Pike and Smallmouth at Lake Michigammee
Ever catch a Northern Pike on a fly rod? They attack a fly like a water wolf coming up from below in the weed beds where it has been hiding just waiting for an unsuspecting meal to come along. For great fun and some great fly fishing experiences this package might be for you. Five (5) nights of lodging at the Maple Ridge Resort (Please check out their website) on Lake Michigammee and 3 days fishing around the many islands and shoreline of this 3300 acre lake located right in the heart of Moose Country here in the Upper Peninsula.
This trip would be best for an experienced fly fisher but a novice can find it a great place to improve your skills as well. Here’s the deal. You get 5 nights at the Maple Ridge, 1 day guided fishing, and 3 days with a fishing pontoon boat that is just great to fish from.
We show you where to go for 1 day then you are on your own. But it doesn’t stop here. There is the Pesheke River nearby that has some Brookies and Browns too. You’ll have to wade this river. Best time of the year is from May 15 thru the 1 week in July as the fish are in the shallower water and easier to target. We can help you with fly selection. You’ll also want at least a 6 or heavier fly rod.
Total cost for this package is $1599.00 for 2 anglers. For 3 add just $100.00 and for 4 add $200.00.
Smallmouth of Big Bay De Noc.
Big Bay de Noc is a very shallow bay in Northern Lake Michigan that is widely known for outstanding fishing for Smallmouth Bass, Northern Pike, and Walleye. Ogantz Bay within Big Bay de Noc (French for Big Bay of the North) and the shoreline around to Stonington Peninsula is outstanding water for Smallmouth Fly Fishing. Fly Fishing for Carp is also done in this area in the flats. The bay is very rocky in lots of places and of that is great Smallmouth country. Smallmouths like to eat crayfish so streamer flies on a sinking tip line in great to get down by the rocks so you can mimic the crayfish. We like to allow a couple of days for this package to get the best conditions. If we can’t get on Lake Michigan due to the weather there are several streams and rivers nearby where we spend some time. We recommend 2 people on this trip. Novice to expert fly fishermen will find this trip very enjoyable. We will supply all of the fishing tackle and equipment but you are welcome to bring you won rods along. We use our 20’ pontoon boat for this trip. There are a couple of area motels we use that are nice and some good restaurants in the area.
Total package cost for this trip for 2 days fishing and 2 nights lodging is $1170.00. Both days are guided.
The Craig Lake Experience
Craig Lake
This is a package for the Outdoorsman Fly Fisher on Craig Lake a 307 acre lake that once belonged to the Miller Brewing Family but was donated to the State of Michigan in the 1950’s. Fly Fishing from a canoe or kayak for Muskie, Northern Pike, and Smallmouth on a remote wilderness lake in the middle of God’s Country is the ticket at this place. No lodge or motel here. You are camping on a island or along the shoreline of this very pristine wilderness lake in the middle of Moose Country. You will feel like you are in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and Ontario up here. I have personally a 50 inch Muskie in this lake just last summer (2006). Depending on how long you want to stay you’ll need to bring supplies, although you can drive to town for more if necessary. This is a trip for at least a somewhat experienced fly fisherman. Having fly fished from a canoe or kayak might be helpful. But a novice can also learn more here too. Here’s the deal. With this package we give you a day of guided fishing on the lake just to show you the best spots and try out some flies. Then you can stay on you own for 2 more days of camping and fishing. We supply the guide and boats. You will need your own fly rods and fishing equipment.
Total cost for 2 people is $500.00 for the 3 day adventure.
The park does charge $9.00 per night for camping privileges. This is not included in the
cost with us.
Lakers at Stannard Rock
Did you ever wander what it would be like to catch a 30-40 lb. fish on your fly rod while fishing from a kayak and then try to land it while being pulled around in the water. Now add to that the fact that you are 45 miles offshore in mid Lake Superior. Does that equal excitement or what? Stannard Rock is a reef in mid Lake Superior that is simply a mountain top that comes up from the depths of the lake 600 feet to a couple of spots that it even slightly breaks the surface. It really has its own eco system and the lake trout out here do not migrate. There are some migratory Steelhead, Coho’s and even Atlantic salmon here. In mid July there a black fly hatch that is legendary. The fish are on the surface feeding and that is when you want to be there. You can either fish for them off of the bow of our 29’ Luhrs Sportfisherman or we can bring along a kayak or two for you to get out and have it on your own. Of course we won’t be too far away. We once even had some float tubers out there and they had a blast. You’ll want at least a 7 wt. or better rod and streamers would be the best flies to use. You don’t have to just fly fish either as many are caught casting and jigging especially in the deeper water, or you can do both.
The cost for this trip is $1200.00 for 6 people. It is a private charter with only your group on board.
Lodging is at the Holiday Inn here in Marquette for 2 nights with two people per room.
The total package price for the trip to Stannard Rock and the lodging for 6 anglers is $1699.00 and this includes lunch on the boat.
We will also clean and package any fish that you would like to keep.
Pan Fish at Greenwood
Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Crappie, and Northern Pike are well represented in this lake.
The afternoon and evening bug hatches can be an excellent time to get out on our pontoon and fly fish here on the Greenwood Reservoir. You’ll feel like you are up in Canada here with the many small islands, evergreen, birch trees, and rocks. The lake also has lots of standing timber and small coves that hold the crappies and blue gill. Pike are in the weed beds and Bass along the shoreline. This can be a day trip or multiple day trip as you will really like this lake if you like to fly fish for these fish. You could also do this in a canoe or kayak and even camp overnight.
Basic price for a guided trip out here in a pontoon is $450.00. Canoes or kayaks $350.00.
Rainbows at Brockey Lake
Brockey Lake is a small deep trout lake in Northwestern Marquette County that holds a very nice population of Rainbow Trout. A few Brook trout can also be found here. Best time to fish here is in the evening with a bug hatch of course. Fishing is done from a canoe, kayak, or drift boat. There are a couple other lakes in the area, namely Wolf Lake, Log Lake, and Clear Lake that have Brook Trout and Rainbows which we could fish as well. They would have to be fished from a canoe or kayak.
A guided trip out to this area is $375.00 for 2 people. We will supply all of the equipment you will need.
Great Northern Fly Fishing Adventure
This package trip is basically a combination of many of our other fly fishing adventures where we will target several different types of fish, environments, and conditions. Brook Trout, Rainbows, Browns, Salmon and Steelhead (if in the rivers when you are here), Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass are the target fish. The Escanaba, Yellow Dog, Lake Independence, Carp, and Chocolay Rivers are the fishing holes. We supply all the equipment and tackle you will need. But you can also bring your own if you choose to.
Lodging will be in your own cabin, (Marks Place), on Lake Independence for 6 nights. Four days will be spent fly fishing and you will have a 14’ fishing boat with 10hp outboard at you disposal to use when you are not fly fishing with us. A 20’ pontoon boat is also available. We will be fishing from a drift boat or canoe, pontoon boat, and wading. This trip is for novice to experienced fly fishers and we can easily handle up to 4 people at a time. Lunch is included every day. We will also clean, package and store any fish you would like to keep.
Cost for the package is $2516.00 or $629.00 per person. Modifications to this trip are also possible.
