Michigan's incredible network of streams and rivers make it the envy of the nation. Some 36,000 miles of our waterways are navigable and thousands more contain nearly unlimited fishing potential. The Upper Peninsula having the most wild and under-fished of these.

The trout streams alone in the Upper Peninsula are legendary. The Fox, the Two-Hearted, the Yellow Dog, and many more get top billing. Many more-some small and secretive beckon the flyfisher, spin caster or worm dunker. We have given top -billing here to 20 of the Upper Peninsula's premier streams and rivers.

If you want more detailed information and/or descriptions on more of them we suggest you purchase 2 books by Mr. Tom Huggler called 50 Rivers and 50 More Rivers. They provide very good descriptions of Michigan Rivers. There are also many other streams that are excellent trout waters but mostly remain unknown except to guides and some locals. Hopefully you can find one.

With each river or stream listed below we will provide you with basic information as to County, Location, Fish, and a General Description and available Lodging, Guides/Outfitters or Fly/Bait Tackle shops. For more detailed information it's best to try to find a local Fly/Bait/Tackle shop or Guide/Outfitter. We list several on this website in our Guides/Outfitter section. They are listed alphabetically by their respective county location. An important point to remember. These rivers and streams are certainly not the only good fishing river and stream waters of the UP.Your best bet for success is with a guide at least initially. Remember 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. Having some one show you where and how always helps.
